The Academy of Research and Higher Education (ARES) is an organization of public interest financed by the Federation Wallonie-Bruxile lles and created by the decree “Landscape”  of November 7, 2013, that brings together 127 higher education institutions.

The ARES Scholarship Program 2022 in Belgium offers you the opportunity to study a one-year advanced bachelor’s or master’s degree program or a 2-to-6-month continuing education program within a higher education institution. Furthermore, candidates who are awarded the ARES Scholarship can augment their knowledge by participating in different academic activities under the supervision of top-notch supervisors.

The program is open to nationals of developing countries who have professional experience in development-related fields and seek to further develop their skills. There is no application fee for the ARES scholarship.

ARES does not charge any fees for its application or selection process.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Required Language: English, French
  • Eligible Countries: Nationals of Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cuba, Ecuador, Ethiopia (only for training courses in English), Haiti, Madagascar, Morocco, Niger, Peru, the Philippines, the DR Congo, Rwanda, Senegal, and Vietnam.
  • Be a citizen of a developing country. To be eligible, applicants must be residing and working in their country of origin when they apply.
  • Be under the age of 40 for degree programs, and under 45 for training courses, at the time the training is scheduled to begin.
  • Have earned a diploma comparable to a graduate-level diploma from Belgian university studies. Nevertheless, for certain training courses, different requirements may be requested.
  • Possess relevant professional experience in a developing country of at least two years after graduate studies, or of three years after their studies if the applicant has earned a post-grad degree from a university in an industrialized country.
  • Have a good mastery of written and spoken French. For training courses held in another language, it is essential to have a proper level in the course’s language, both written and spoken. The applicant must commit to learn French in order to take part in daily life in Belgium.

How to Apply

  • The applicants have to apply through the GIRAF platform.
  • The applicants first need to open an active GIRAF account.
  • The applicants will receive the confirmation email after the account’s activation.
  • After getting access to the account, you can reach the application form at the “My tasks” tab of the Competitive calls sections on your profile.
  • Click one time on the International training application 2022 to 2023.
  • After filling the form carefully, you must press the save and edit later option.
  • You must fill the application form carefully because once you submit it, you can no longer edit it.
  • The successful candidates will get an email by the end of June 2022.
